Nico Gruber (AUT) and Philipp Regensperger (GER) active in TCR Germany

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

Two former champions from the Drexler Formula Cup and Remus Formula Cup are once again active in touring car racing this season. More specifically, both are competing in the ADAC TCR Germany, which is part of the International German GT Championship (ADAC GT Masters). Austrian Nico Gruber made a splash as a series newcomer last year, winning in his very first TCR outing in the Hyundai i30N TCR at the Lausitzring. Gruber finished third in the Junior classification at the end of the season, causing a surprise not only for Hyundai Team Engstler. He last sat in a formula car in 2019, when he won the Formula Renault class in the Drexler Formula Cup in commanding fashion. Philipp Regensperger's motorsport career followed a similar path to Nico Gruber's. Regensperger also comes from karting and made his entry into circuit racing in a formula car. In 2017, he finished runner-up in the Remus Formula Cup overall drivers' classification in Formula 3 and also claimed victory in the German Formula 3 Cup classification. Last season, the 22-year-old from Bavaria competed in the TCR for Team Lubner Motorsport. This year, team boss Mirko Lubner is now planning a full season in the ADAC TCR Germany in an Opel Astra TCR. Both Nico Gruber and Philipp Regensperger have gained a lot of circuit experience in formula racing. This now also needs to be implemented in the TCR touring car in order to continue to be successful.
