Full house in Styria

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup - Red Bull Ring (AUT)

Next weekend (17-19 May), the Drexler Formula Cup will be in Styria for its second round. The circuit trophy at the Red Bull Ring has been one of the highlights of the season for many years and fans will get a foretaste of the Formula 1 Austrian Grand Prix. A total of fourteen races are on the programme. Both the Styrian grandstand and the paddock are freely accessible. The Grand Prix circuit in the Alps is not only about scoring points in the Drexler Formula Cup, the Austrian National Racing Car Championship and the FIA CEZ, the drivers of the ZINOX F 2000 Trophy are also competing for championship points. "We are expecting around 36 formula cars and drivers from eleven nations. There is a lot of interest and we can present the spectators with a very strong international field. After the season opener in Vallelunga, more drivers will start the season," says coordinator Franz Wöss. The Schwarzenberg Drexler Cup coordinator and team boss is really looking forward to the home race in the Alps with the picturesque backdrop of the Red Bull Ring.

Francesco Galli wins the season opener

Drexler Formula Cup - Vallelunga (ITA)

Francesco Galli (GMotorsport) is the winner of the season opener of the Drexler Formula Cup in Vallelunga. After taking pole position on Saturday with a qualifying time of 1:28.410 minutes, Galli dominated the first race of the new season in impressive style. Defending champion Benjamin Berta (Franz Wöss Racing) was 0.466 seconds behind in qualifying. Behind the driver from Hungary, Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) made it onto the second row of the grid, which was completed by Dino Rasero (PURESPORT). Things got pretty turbulent after the start. Galli initially lost the lead to Berta and Zeller attacked the Hungarian, who found himself in second position behind Galli a few metres later. ‘My start was not good, but after three corners I was back in front,’ said Galli. Then three cars at the back of the field collided with each other, triggering a ten-minute safety car period. This action was a real pity for the course of the race, because a lot of time was lost recovering the cars.

Start of the season at the gates of Rome

Drexler - Automotive Formula Cup - Vallelunga (ITA)

The Drexler Formula Cup starts its 11th season in Vallelunga. At the end of 2012, the FIA announced the cancellation of several national Formula 3 championships. One of the Formula 3 championships that had to suspend its sporting ambitions virtually overnight was the Austria Formula 3 Cup. However, there were supporters and sponsors of the Formula 3 scene. Things continued with the Remus Formula Cup. Then, with the support of Drexler-Automotive GmbH from Salzweg in Bavaria, the current formula sprint series was successfully continued and established as one of the most attractive formula series in Europe. Thanks to the co-operation with the ZINOX F2000 Trophy, which presents the Formula 3 scene in Italy, the Drexler Formula Cup can also boast a high-calibre calendar this season.
