The season opener of the Drexler Formula Cup, which was planned for May 15-17, has been cancelled. On Friday (24.04.) the organizer of the Circuit Trophy informed all series and participants that no event will be held on the Formula 1 circuit in mid-May. Due to the restrictions caused by the Corona pandemic in Austria, race director Gerhard Leeb had already had a bad feeling in the last few weeks whether the traditional event could take place in Styria. "The top priority is of course the safety for all fans, for the teams and active participants and our own organisation team", says Leeb. He was not only concerned with the safety regulations on and off the track. The majority of the participants of the expected race series would have come from abroad, which is not feasible under the current travel regulations across Europe. The program at the Red Bull Ring was really well set up, not only because of the free entry. With the TCR Europe, MAXX Formular, Audi R8 LMS Cup, P9 Challenge as well as the Drexler Formula Cup and the Renault Twingo and Clio Cup the programme was interesting and varied for the fans. The Moto "Motorsport at your fingertips" has been close to the organiser's heart for years and the fans thank him again and again with their visit. They can look forward to the coming year, when the next Leeb Rundstreckentrophy is planned for May 2021. For the Drexler Formula Cup the Salzburgring on June 12th - 14th is now announced as a possible season opener. But you don't have to be a prophet to put a big question mark over the event. "We are in contact with the organizer every week and also know that they are trying to find alternative dates. To date, the event has not yet been officially cancelled," says coordinator Franz Wöss.
