Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup - Hockenheim
Before the Drexler Formula Cup goes into its summer break, round 6 is on the agenda at Hockenheim. The Grand Prix circuit in Baden was the venue for the last time in 2018 for the Formula cars with Formula 3 and Formula Renault. "The drivers and teams are of course looking forward to Hockenheim, as we have not been guests at Hockenheim for three years. Formula 3 can look back on a great tradition here," says coordinator Franz Wöss. The Porsche Club Days (29-30 July) will provide the stage for the two sprint races in the Drexler Formula Cup. In addition, the fifth Formula 1 track in Europe will be raced this season. In Hockenheim, the cards will definitely be reshuffled. Thomas Amweg, the 2014 champion, is celebrating his comeback. The man from Aargau drives for the Franz Wöss Racing team and last competed in Formula 3 at the Salzburgring in 2020, where he achieved two podium finishes. "The entry came about very spontaneously and I'm looking forward to seeing everyone again," says Thomas Amweg, who incidentally became a father in March this year and is of course enjoying the great time with his family. He is far from rusty on the circuit and won the Historic Jim Clark Revival in April in the Ralt Formula 2. Before the weekend in Hockenheim, Thomas Amweg wants to go through a fitness programme so that he is well prepared to compete for the first time in the Franz Wöss Racing team.
Danny Luderer (Vogtland Racing) will also make his season debut in Formula 3, while Hartmut Bertsch, Markus Leidinger and Stephan Glaser (all Formula Renault) will now race for the first time in the Drexler Formula Cup. In terms of numbers, Team Speed Center is very strongly represented and will be at the Hockenheimring with five Formula cars. Christian Zeller, Philipp Todtenhaupt, Patrick Harmuth and Thomas Zeltner are entered in Formula 3. Nikolas Hayek will compete in Formula Renault. In Formula 3, defending champion Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) has a flawless record so far with 4 double wins and leads the championship standings ahead of David Richert and Luca Iannaccone (both Franz Wöss Racing). Zeller can also rely on the support of his team-mates in Hockenheim. Urs Rüttimann, Marcel Tobler and Kurt Böhlen also support the Swiss Formula 3 drivers' intention to win. In the Formula 3 Open category, Benjamin Berta (Team Hoffmann Racing) could distance himself from his closest rival Paolo Brajnik, who is not participating in Hockenheim, if he wins again. Dr.Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing)has built up a reassuring lead in the Formula Renault standings after the 5 rounds so far. His team mate Andre Petropoulos is likely to do everything in his power to overtake Fabio Turchetto, who is currently second in the standings. The Porsche Club Days have a tight programme ahead of them over the two days of racing. The Drexler Formula Cup will complete both free practice sessions on Friday (29.07.2022) at 9.25 am and 12.25 pm. The qualifying will take place at 16.35. The 1st race will take place on Saturday (30.07.2022) at 9.35 am. The 2nd race will follow at 14.50 hrs.
