Dream finale in Tuscany
11 October 2022
Drexler - Automotive Formula Cup - Mugello (ITA)
With the final weekend at the Autodromo Del Mugello (14.-16.10.22) the Drexler Formula Cup turns into the home stretch this year. Just over a month after the races at the Masarykring in Brno, the 8th round at the 5.245-kilometer circuit north of Florence is on the schedule. At the Mugello Racing Weekend, the Drexler Formula Cup will once again cooperate with the Italian TOPJET F.2000 Trophy. For the finale, the interest of the teams is once again very high. "We have 36 formula racing cars at the start in Mugello. Formula 3 naturally makes up the lion's share of the field with 28 race cars. From today's point of view, there will be a worthy finale, although the champions have already been decided since the 7th round in the Czech Republic," says coordinator Franz Wöss.
The race program is peppered with some of Italy's top-class circuit series. In addition, Boss GP is present with Formula 1 and GP2 race cars. A total of 12 decisions are scheduled for the weekend. The well-known motorcycle circuit hosts MotoGP every year, and in 2020 Formula 1 raced for the first time on the ultra-fast circuit, which has made a name for itself in Formula 1 as Ferrari's test track. The Drexler Formula Cup last competed at Mugello in 2020. The circuit is considered very demanding and has special challenges to offer due to its characteristics. Two years ago, Bernardo Pellegrini (HAT Powerteam) and Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) shared the race wins. Close battles at the top are to be expected again this year. At their home race, the Formula 3 drivers of the TOPJET F2000 are reluctant to admit defeat. Sandro Zeller recently celebrated his seventh consecutive Formula 3 title at Brno and has a flawless record in 2022. He will be one of the favorites in the season finale. David Richert (Franz Wöss Racing) has secured second place in the championship and is no longer in danger. In the fight for third place, Luca Iannaccone (Franz Wöss Racing) could still overtake Tomas Chabr (Chabr Motorsport) if he scores enough points. In the Formula 3 Open category, Benjamin Berta (Team Hoffmann Racing) comes to Mugello as champion. The Hungarian had a fabulous season in 2022 which was crowned with the title. His rival Paolo Brajnik is a safe second ahead of Janos Magyar (Magyar Racing). In Formula Renault, since Brno, Dr. Norbert Groer is the title holder. Like Andre Petropoulis, he drives for the Hoffmann Racing team. It remains to be seen how this duel will end in Mugello or whether Fabio Turchetto will succeed in taking a race win at the finale.
On Friday (14.10.) the Drexler Automotive Formula Cup will have free practice at 10.20 and 13.45 hrs before qualifying at 17.55 hrs. The 1st run will take place on Saturday (15.10.) at 12.35 o'clock. On Sunday (16.10.) the 2nd run will take place at 15.00 hrs.
