Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup - Spa Francorchamps (BEL)
For its 5th race weekend, the Drexler Formula Cup will be coming to Spa Francorchamps from 07-09 July 2023. 2021 was the last time the Ardennes hosted the event. "It has already become a good tradition that we race at the Spa Summer Classic. The Formula 1 circuit has its own peculiar appeal in the world in many respects. For this race, the popularity is particularly high. Of course, we are looking forward to top-class duels on the Ardennes roller coaster," says coordinator Franz Wöss. The 7.004-kilometer Formula 1 circuit has always been considered a special draw. 40 Formula cars with drivers from 13 nations are expected. The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is one of the greatest challenges for racing drivers from all over the world. It rightly bears its nickname "Ardennes roller coaster," as evidenced by the spectacular "Raidillon/Eau Rouge" steep section and the downhill passage with the notorious "Blanchimont" curve.
Last season, the traditional circuit near the German border was extensively modernized, with modified run-off zones and new grandstands. The Drexler Formula Cup is once again cooperating with the ZINOX F2000 Trophy at Spa. How could it be otherwise, Formula 3 will be very strongly represented with 35 cars. After the 4 race weekends held so far, Benjamin Berta (Franz Wöss Racing) comes to Belgium as the leader of the standings in the Drexler Formula 3 Cup with 153 points. Defending champion Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) is currently second with 121 points, followed by Japan's Juju Noda (Noda Racing), who has 85 points and has lost ground due to her retirement in the 2nd race at the Red Bull Ring. Within striking distance is Bernardo Pellegrini (HT Powertrain) in fourth place with 65 points. In the Drexler Formula 3 Trophy, Eduardo Bonanomi (Team Automobile Tricolore) leads the standings with 61 points. Just behind him are Luca Iannaccone (Franz Wöss Racing) with 54 points and Marco Falci (Nannini Racing), as well as Marcel Tobler (Jo Zeller Racing), both with 50 points. There are also new names in the Formula 3 field. Thomas Aregger (Franz Wöss Racing), Urs Rüttimann and Kurt Böhlen (both Jo Zeller Racing) will be on the grid. For Franz Wöss Racing, Cian Carey is back after a long absence. Markus Lehmann (Team Speed Center) and his team will bring four Formula 3 cars to the Ardennes. Christian Zeller, Philipp Todtenhaupt, Patrick Harmuth and Thomas Zeltner are on the grid at Spa-Francorchamps. In the Formula Renault standings, Fabio Turchetto (A.S.D.Ruote Scoperte M.) leads the standings with 66.5 points after the weekend at the Red Bull Ring. Robert Siska (Franz Wöss Racing) is second with 40 points, followed by Dr.Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing) and Stefano Palummieri (PALMRACING)), who both have 18.5 points each. On Friday (July 07), free practice sessions are scheduled for the Drexler Formula Cup at 09.05, as well as 12.05 and 15.20. Qualifying will follow at 19.05. On Saturday (08.07.) the 1st run of the Drexler Formula Cup will take place at 14.50 hrs. The 2nd run will take place on Sunday (09.07.) at 14.00 o'clock.
