Hot finale in Tuscany

03 October 2023

Drexler - Automotive Formula Cup - Mugello (ITA)

The Drexler Formula Cup is entering the home straight in its 10th season at Mugello. Next weekend (06.-08.10.) points will be awarded for the last time. The championship can boast a great field of starters on the 5.245-kilometre circuit at the Mugello Racing Weekend. "We have almost 40 Formula cars on the grid. Of course, Formula 3 is very strongly represented in the field," says coordinator Franz Wöss. Like all the teams and drivers, he is looking forward to the renewed encounter with the ZINOX F2000 Trophy, which presents the Formula 3 scene in Italy. The ultra-fast circuit in Tuscany has come into the limelight mainly due to the MotoGP races in recent years. For the Drexler Formula Cup, it is already the second appearance in Mugello, as they completed the season opener here this year. The winners in the spring were Benjamin Berta (Franz Wöss Racing) and Juju Noda (Noda Racing).

At the penultimate round in Brno in September, Noda was able to reduce her gap to the top once again with a double victory. The fast Japanese can no longer win the championship on her own, but she still has the chance to win the runner-up title. Benjamin Berta laid the foundation for a very good starting position to bring the Formula 3 title to Hungary for the first time with two second place finishes in Brno. For the current champion Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) it's all about everything in Mugello. The Swiss will try to win and close the 34-point gap to Berta. To what extent the strong Italians, led by Bernardo Pellegrini (HT Powertrain), can tip the scales will be proven by both fuel races. As expected, the top drivers from the ZINOX F2000 Trophy will be particularly motivated at their home race. In the Formula 3 Trophy, Marcel Tobler (Jo Zeller Racing) is already the champion. It's more a question of the vice-championship here. Luca Iannaccone (Franz Wöss Racing) could fulfil a dream in Mugello. The rivals behind him, Francesco Solfaroli (Facondi Racing) and Eduardo Bonanomi (Team Automobile Tricolore), however, are within striking distance of Iannaccone. Don't underestimate Andre Petropoulos (Team Hoffmann Racing) and Brno double winner Vaclav Safar (GT2 Motorsport). If they score enough points, both of them could be in contention for podium positions at the end of the race. In the Formula Light category, Fabio Turchetto (A.S.D.Ruote Scoperte) and Dr. Norbert Groer from the Hoffmann Racing team will battle it out. Dr. Groer has come within 5.5 points of Turchetto and will try to defend his title with a victory in the final.

On Friday (06.10.) the free practice sessions are scheduled for the Drexler Automotive Formula Cup. Qualifying will take place on Saturday (07.10.) from 13.30 onwards. The 1st race will take place on Sunday (08.10.) at 9.40 am. At 14.40 hrs the formula racing series will start for its 2nd race.
