Hot duels to be expected in Tuscany

19 August 2024

Drexler - Automotive Formula Cup - Mugello (ITA)

The Drexler Formula Cup is slowly approaching the home straight. After an almost month-long summer break, the sixth race weekend is scheduled for Mugello at the ACI Racing Weekend (23-25/08/2024). Once again, the Drexler Formula Cup will have a great starting field on the 5.245-kilometre circuit in Mugello. ‘We are expecting over 30 formula cars. Formula 3 is still very strong and I'm excited to see how the favourites can hold their own,’ says coordinator Franz Wöss. Like all the teams and drivers, he is looking forward to the renewed clash with the ZINOX F2000 Trophy, which presents the Formula 3 scene in Italy. Last year, the ultra-fast circuit in Tuscany was the venue for the finale of the Drexler Formula Cup. Victor Smialek (Franz Wöss Racing) celebrated his first win of the season in Formula 3 at the fifth round in Hockenheim at the end of July. As a result, the Canadian took third place in the standings with 136 points. Benjamin Berta (Franz Wöss Racing) continues to lead the standings with 192 points.

The Hungarian lost points at Hockenheim. This benefited Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing), who not only won the first race but is also back within striking distance of Berta with 166 points. Francesco Galli (G Motorsport) wants to work his way back to the front in Mugello. He had less luck at Hockenheim and not only lost ground to Victor Smialek. Stig Larsen (Franz Wöss Racing) took advantage of the moment in Hockenheim and improved to 5th place, where he is placed with 64 points. The drivers from the ZINOX F2000 Trophy are particularly motivated at their home race. This also applies to Ricardo Perego (Team Automobile Tricolore) and Andrea Benalli (Puresport), who finished in the points in the first three race weekends this year. In the Formula 3 Trophy, Marcel Tobler (Jo Zeller Racing) is driving towards defending his title. The Swiss driver has dominated the season so far with 143 points and recently secured his second double victory of the season at Hockenheim.

In Mugello, Tobler will face Francesco Solfaroli (Facondini Racing), who has certainly not yet written off the season with 93 points. Andre Petropulos (Team Hoffmann Racing) is in third place with 83 points, followed by Urs Rüttimann (Jo Zeller Racing), who still has his sights set on a podium finish in the final standings with 61 points. Although Dr Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing) has made up some ground in the Formula Light class, the Austrian will not be entirely satisfied with his 82 points. In Mugello, championship leader Emir Tanju (Viola Formula Racing) is back on the grid. The Turk has 129 points to his name and has kept Karim Sartori (Speed Motor) in second place with 116 points. The free practice sessions for the Drexler Automotive Formula Cup are scheduled for Friday (23 August). Qualifying will take place on the same day from 15.45. The first race will take place on Saturday (24 August) at 13:30. On Sunday (25 August), the starting lights for the second race will switch to green at 10.50 am.
