Drexler Formula Cup Brno (CZE)
Two weeks after the race weekend in Mugello, the Drexler Formula Cup starts the next round in Brno (06-08 September). The traditional circuit in the Czech Republic heralds the start of the final autumn in the formula racing series, which concludes the season at the final races in Monza. The Masaryk Racing Days on the former motorbike Grand Prix circuit have been an integral part of the Drexler Formula Cup for years. This year's racing programme is also well filled with GT racing series, as well as the TCR Europe, the Suzuki Swift and Clio Cup and the F4 CEZ. ‘A preliminary decision could already be made in Brno in Formula 3,’ says coordinator Franz Wöss.
With his forecast, the Schwarzenberg team boss and organiser is alluding to his protégé Benjamin Berta, who won the second race in Mugello after a zero result in the first race. The Hungarian comes to Brno as leader of the Formula 3 Cup standings and has been involved in a knife-edge duel with rival Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) in recent years. Sandro Zeller has reduced the gap to Benjamin Berta to eight points. The seven-time champion in the Drexler Formula Cup is once again a force to be reckoned with in Brno, because he simply has a very good run and can win at any time with his routine in Formula 3. Viktor Smialek (Franz Wöss Racing) has established himself in third place with a consistent performance this season. He has steadily improved in his first Formula 3 season and finished on the podium both times in Mugello. His 42-point lead over fourth-placed Francesco Galli (G Motorsport) says it all. Both sprint races at Mugello were characterised by fierce battles for position.
The seventh race weekend in the Czech Republic is also expected to be characterised by an exciting battle. In the Drexler Formula 3 Trophy, front runner Marcel Tobler (Jo Zeller Racing) can make everything clear in Brno and secure the title early. Tobler leads the standings with 143 points ahead of Francesco Solfaroli (Faccondini Racing), who has scored 93 points. Just two points behind the Italian is Andre Petropoulos (Team Hoffmann Racing) in third place. He does not just want to consolidate his current promising position. With a corresponding points haul, Petropoulos can look towards the podium in the final standings this season. The Formula Light category is currently dominated by Italian Formula Renault drivers. Karim Sartori (Speed Motor) and Emir Tanju (Viola Formula Racing) have predominantly set the tone so far. Sartori has 149 points to his name so far and has kept Tanju in second place with 141 points. Dr Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing) has not had an easy game so far. However, he can further reduce the gap to the top with 92 points so far in order to be well prepared for the finale in Monza. The first qualifying session for the Drexler Formula Cup is scheduled for Friday (6 September) after the free practice sessions at 5.10 pm. The first race will take place on Saturday (07.09.) at 9.05 am. After the 2nd qualifying session at 9.35 am on Sunday morning (08/09), the 2nd race will take place at around 2.40 pm.
