Banger field for the season finale

01 October 2024

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup - Monza

The finale of the Drexler Formula Cup will take place next weekend (4-6 October) on the 5.793-kilometre Formula 1 circuit in Monza. October also marks the end of the motorsport year for the majority of Italian championships. The Italiano Gran Turismo Sprint, the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia and the Mini Challenge will provide plenty of excitement at the ACI Racing Weekend. The final points will be awarded in the Drexler Formula Cup. ‘Monza has always had a special attraction for the teams and drivers. It is the fastest race track on the season calendar. Accordingly, we can expect a cracking field of over 35 cars. As every year, the teams' interest in Monza is huge. We are looking forward to the finale as part of the Italian circuit championships,’ says coordinator Franz Wöss.

In the Drexler Formula Cup, Benjamin Berta (Franz Wöss Racing) comes to Italy with the best prospects in Formula 3. After his double victory in Brno (CZE), the Hungarian has extended his lead and is 28 points ahead of Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing). Berta cannot afford to make any mistakes in the finale because Sandro Zeller is still within striking distance. The seven-time champion in the Drexler Formula Cup has not yet written off his chance of winning the title for good. A lot can still happen in the final. Victor Smialek (Franz Wöss Racing) confirmed his upward trend this season with two more podium finishes in Brno. The high-flyer from Canada can still finish runner-up. His current third place in the standings can probably no longer be taken from him, as Francesco Galli (G Motorsport) is 78 points behind Smialek in fourth place.

Marcel Tobler (Jo Zeller Racing) has secured the title in the Formula 3 Trophy. The Swiss shared the race wins in Brno with Andre Petropoulos (Team Hoffmann Racing) and heads to the finale in Monza with a 52-point lead. Luca Iannaccone (Neri Autosport) has made up some ground in the season finale and could still pose a threat to his compatriot Francesco Solfaroli (Facondini Racing). Solfaroli is currently 6 points ahead of Iannaccone in third place. Robert Rowe is within striking distance. He is only 10 points behind Solfaroli and will do everything in his power to finish on the podium in the final standings. Although the two favourites in the Formula Light Cup, Karim Sartori (Speed Motor) and Emir Tanju (Viola Formula Racing), will be battling it out for the championship, Dr Norbert Groer has had a great end to the season. The Austrian from the Hoffmann Racing team is likely to secure third place. Sartori is the front runner with 149 points ahead of Tanju, who has scored 141 points.  Things get underway in Monza on Friday (4 October) with free practice at 12.10 pm. Qualifying will take place in the late afternoon at around 5.00 pm. On Saturday (05.10.), the lights will turn green for the first race at 14:00. On Sunday (06.10.), the Drexler Formula Cup will start at 11.50 am for the grand finale with the 2nd race, which will end the 2024 season.
