Drexler - Automotive Formula Cup - Imola (ITA)
After the summer break, the third round of the Drexler Formula Cup in this year's calendar took place in Imola. As in Mugello, the TOP JET F2000 Italian Trophy was a guest appearance and the duel between the Swiss Formula 3 drivers and the Italian competition was given a new edition. Bernardo Pellegrini (HT Powertrain) took pole position with a time of 1:40.730 minutes on the 4.933 km long Formula 1 circuit ahead of Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing). Zeller got the better start on Saturday afternoon and led the field for laps before he made a mistake and slipped into the gravel. Pellegrini took advantage of this and passed.
A mid-field crash involving two Italian Formula 3 cars triggered a safety car phase five minutes before the end of the race. However, this did not change the order after the re-start. Pellegrini crossed the finish line 0.803 seconds ahead of Sandro Zeller. Behind the Swiss driver, Brice Morabito (Monolite Racing) drove a strong race and held Thomas Aregger (Franz Wöss Racing) in fourth position, who had tried to pass the Luxembourger several times during the 15 lap chase. The Czech Matey Kacovsky set an exclamation mark. He moved up from tenth position on the grid to seventh position.
The second race on Sunday morning was started behind the safety car due to very humid conditions on the track. When the field was cleared on lap three, Sandro Zeller took the lead and overtook pole setter Bernardo Pellegrini. This duel was to leave its mark on the race during the 12 lap distance. The track dried up more and more, only in a few places the drivers had to be careful not to get off the track. While Zeller was able to extend his lead at first, Thomas Aregger took third position behind Pellegrini and held this position until the finish line ahead of the two Italians Enrico Milani and Mario Neri. Brice Morabito, on the other hand, had to retire at the start and remained without points. Sandro Zeller looked like the sure winner until the chequered flag fell, when the Swiss was subsequently given a 10-second penalty for an offence. This prevented the defending champion from winning the Drexler Formula Cup. Pellegrino had been able to catch up more and more in the last laps. Zeller was now rated 4.804 seconds behind Pellegrini. Thomas Aregger completed the podium with third place. In Formula 4, the Austrian Patrick Schober won the 2nd race. The Hungarian Benjamin Berta had triumphed on Saturday and was defeated one day later. In the Drexler Formula 3 Trophy classification Prof.-Dr.Ralph Pütz (Belicon Motorsport) celebrated a double victory and extended his lead.
