First preliminary decisions expected
22 October 2020
Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup - Hungaroring (HUN)
On the penultimate weekend in October, the Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup will come to the Hungaroring for its fifth round (October 24-25)). The 4,381 km long Grand Prix circuit at the gates of Budapest heralds the final autumn. Afterwards it's off to the final round in Monza. Since the cooperation with the FIA CEZ, the Hungaroring has recently established itself on the Drexler Formula Cup calendar. With the FIA CEZ (Sprint and Endurance) and the TCR Eastern Europe Trophy, as well as the Suzuki Swift Cup Europe, the racing program is varied. "Our championship goes into the hot phase. We expect some preliminary decisions in the formula classes. Unfortunately, the Covid 19 pandemic is not playing into our hands, as the rules and restrictions have been tightened up again all over Europe, many measures have been taken in a confusing way, and the uncertainty is sometimes great. This has led to the fact that some teams and pilots will not be at the start due to the too high risk", says coordinator Franz Wöss.
A total of 18 decisions will be made on both race days. After the four race weekends in the Drexler Formula Cup, Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) has been able to further extend his lead in the standings. The Swiss driver is clearly heading towards defending his title. For his pursuers Thomas Aregger and Prof.Dr. Ralph Pütz (both Franz Wöss Racing) Zeller is as good as out of reach. The Formula 3 drivers behind them, led by Luca Iannaccone and Daniel Tapinos (both Franz Wöss Racing), as well as Matej Kacovsky (HKC Racing), are eager to continue scoring points. In the Drexler Formula 3 Trophy classification the overall victory of Prof.-Dr.-Ing. Ralph Pütz (Belicon Motorsport) is probably not to be taken anymore. The chances of the Swiss Urs Rüttimann and Thomas Amweg (both Jo Zeller Racing) to catch up with the German are dwindling. In Formula 4, Benjamin Berta (Gender Racing Team) is currently in the lead ahead of Patrick Schober (Procar Motorsport). This duel has not yet been decided and will be continued at the Hungaroring. Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing) can already make almost everything clear with another victory in Formula Renault.
The first qualifying session for the Drexler Automotive Formula Cup is scheduled for Friday (23.10.) at 11.55 am. The 1st race will take place on Saturday (24.10.) at 11.30 am. Around 16.10 the 2nd qualifying is scheduled for the afternoon. On Sunday (25.10.) the 2nd race will take place at 11.30 am.
