Facts and figures in the Corona Year

Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup

When the Corona Pandemic at the end of March of this year also found its way into Europe, motor sports was affected in addition to normal public life in the countries. Numerous cancellations and postponements of events were the result. Nobody knew in the spring like it continues to go. All hoped for improvement or even all-clear. But the pandemic should accompany us until today. The original schedule of seven events in the Drexler Formula Cup was reduced to six weekends due to the cancellation of the Circuit Trophy at the Red Bull Ring. After the end of the season, it can be said that the Drexler Formula Cup has driven quite well through the motorsport year 2020. The hygiene and infection regulations in the individual countries were a great challenge for motorsport as a whole. The number of participants in the series partly decreased, also the economic situation of many medium-sized companies forced them to make savings. Sponsorship money was cut or even suspended. "After the final in Monza, we can say that it was a difficult year looking back on the season. Our thanks go to the teams and pilots, as well as to the sponsors, who enabled us to carry out this difficult season. The same goes for the organizers, who, with the help of the local authorities, tried to get the best out of it for the realization of motor sport events, even if it sometimes seemed as if we had some chaotic days ahead of us", says coordinator Franz Wöss. A total of 27 pilots from 10 nations competed in the five special stages. This underlines the importance of the Drexler Formula Cup.

Drexler-Automotive Formula 3 Cup
In the Formula 3 category, Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) impressively dominated the season and scored 225 points at the end. Nine race wins are on the Swiss driver's credit side. The second-placed Thomas Aregger (Franz Wöss Racing) scored a total of 184 points in 2020 and celebrated his first victory of the season at the final in Monza. The fight for third place remained exciting until the final spurt. Prof.Dr. Ralph Pütz (Franz Wöss Racing) won the final with 115 points against Daniel Tapinos (Franz Wöss Racing). The Greek missed the overall podium by three points. He took two victories at the Hungaroring and was the third driver in the 2020 season to record victories alongside Zeller and Aregger.

Drexler-Automotive Formula 3 Trophy
The category of the Formula 3 Trophy, which is reserved for cars built between 1992 and 2007, became a clear matter for Prof. Dr. Ralph Pütz, who was able to distance himself from his Wiedersacher Urs Rüttimann (Jo Zeller Racing) with 126 points even before the final in Monza. Third became Thomas Amweg (Jo Zeller Racing).

Drexler-Automotive Formula Renault 2.0 Cup
In the Formula Renault 2.0 cup 6 participants could be registered. Also in this ranking the decision was made at the final in Italy, which was decided by Oliver Michl (Gender Racing). With 75 points, the Hungarian Dr. Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing) came second with 50.5 points, followed by Jorden Dolischka (Team Top Speed) and the young driver from Austria with 18 points.

Drexler-Automotive Formula 4 Cup
With Benjamin Berta (Gender Racing Team) the title in Formula 4 2020 goes to Hungary. Berta had the staying power until the end and won the final race with 111.5 points ahead of Patrick Schober (Procar Motorsport), who, however, could not be present at the final. Sebastian Freymuth (Team akf-motorsport) finished third with 25 points.

Drexler -Automotive Formula 3 Open
Vaclav Safar (GT2 Motorsport) won the Formula 3 Open with 25 points in the new classification for the Formula 3 Open, which is allowed to drive with performance-enhanced engines. With Paolo Brajnik and Matej Kacovsky (HKC Academy) two drivers with 12.5 points each share second place. The newly introduced classification is primarily intended to give pilots from the FIA Zone Championship the opportunity to participate in the Drexler Formula Cup.

SWISS Formula 3 Cup
Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) was, like last season, the measure of all things in the Swiss Formula 3 ranking. He won with 225 points, ahead of Thomas Aregger (Franz Wöss Racing) who made it to 187 points. Third place went to Urs Rüttimann (Jo Zeller Racing) with 84 points. The Formula 3 classification supported by HORAG AG is reserved exclusively for participants from Switzerland.

As in 2019, the Formula 3 drivers were strongly represented. They formed the focal point with the successful Dallara chassis. On the engine side, the Drexler-Automotive Formula 3 Cup can boast an engine variety as in the best Formula 3 times. With Mercedes, Volkswagen, Opel Spiess, Toyota, Mugen and Fiat, all renowned engine manufacturers were represented. Three times, the formula series cooperated with the FIA Zone Championship. Four times the TOPJET F2000 Italy Formula Trophy was on the road. Despite the corona crisis, the Drexler Formula Cup was able to present itself extensively in the media. Because even here, in times of the pandemic, the media companies had to act sparingly in some cases. No matter whether print or online, it was mainly the ordered short-time work or the relocation to the home office that had to be implemented. All the more reason to thank the journalists and photographers for their commitment. Thus the Drexler Formula Cup was just as present in the online media such as AUTOMOBILSPORT.com, Autosport.at, motorsport xl, auto-rennsport de, autosprint.ch. and motorline.cc ,as well as online sites in the Czech Republic as in the print media Rallye& more and auto-rennsport. Also worth mentioning is the presence on TV at Eurosport, automoto TV, Nova Sport and the newly established Facebook presence of the Drexler Formula Cup, which was staged by Dirk Hartung of autosport.at in a variety of ways.
