Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup - Hockenheim

Just over a month after the Drexler Formula Cup races at the Lausitzring, the formula series heads to Hockenheim next weekend for round 5. The second half of the season kicks off at the 4.574-kilometre Hockenheimring. The Grand Prix circuit in the Baden region is one of the favourite circuits for the Formula 3 and Formula Light cars, if only because of its tradition. ‘After the exciting first half of the season, we now head to Hockenheim, which has hosted Formula 1 for many years. The Hockenheimring is always special. Formula 3 in Germany can look back on a great tradition in Baden,’ says coordinator Franz Wöss.

The Porsche Club Days (26-27 July) will provide the stage for the two sprint races in the Drexler Formula Cup. This season will also see the third Formula 1 circuit in Europe. Benjamin Berta (Franz Wöss Racing) will be travelling to Hockenheim as the leader of the Drexler Formula 3 Cup standings. The Hungarian has put himself in a good starting position with his double victory in Lausitz. He is in the lead with 162 points. Behind him lurks Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing) with 135 points. The season is far from over for the seven-time Drexler Formula Cup champion. A lot can happen between now and the season finale in Monza and there are still plenty of points up for grabs. Victor Smialek (Franz Wöss Racing) is in third place with 96 points. The Canadian will have to prove his season pace so far at Hockenheim. However, this might not be so easy because Francesco Galli (G-Motorsport) will be back at Hockenheim. Galli has won three races so far this season. After missing the start at the Lausitzring, the Italian, who is three points behind Smialek, is now on the hunt to catch up. The Danish driver Stig Larsen will also be a source of excitement. The Franz Wöss Racing driver is in seventh place with 42 points and wants to make up further places. Marcel Tobler (Jo Zeller Racing) will be travelling to the Hockenheimring with a good feeling. The Swiss driver can take the lead in the Formula 3 Trophy standings if he scores enough points. He is level on points with Francesco Solfaroli (Facondini Racing) on 93 points. Andre Petropoulos (Team Hoffmann Racing) wants to take another step forwards. He is in third place with 65 points, followed by Urs Rüttimann (Jo Zeller Racing) with 61 points. In Formula Light, defending champion Dr Norbert Groer (Team Hoffmann Racing) has recently made up some ground. With 52 points, the Austrian is in fourth place. Leader Emir Tanju (Viola Formula Racing), Karim Sartori (Speed Motor) and Valentin Andrieux (Viola Formula Racing) are not competing in Hockenheim. The programme for the Porsche Club Days in Hockenheim is well filled. In addition to the Triumph Competition, the PCHC and the VfV GLPpro with touring cars and GTs as well as formula racing cars will also be on the grid. The Drexler Formula Cup will complete both free practice sessions on Friday (26 July) at 10.00 am and 1.45 pm. Qualifying will then take place at around 5.15 pm. The first race will take place on Saturday (27/07/2023) at 9.35 am. The 2nd race will then follow at 3.25 pm.
