Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup - Monza (ITA)
The Drexler-Automotive Formula Cup will start its 12th season next weekend (11-13 April 2025). The formula racing series will kick off on the 5.793-kilometre Grand Prix circuit in Monza. Together with the TopJet F2000 Trophy, they will be guests at the ACI Racing Weekend. With over 30 cars and drivers from seven nations, the field of the formula series is very well filled at the start of the season. While Drexler-Automotive GmbH from Salzweg in Bavaria will continue its involvement in the formula series in 2025, the title sponsor has changed in the Italian Formula 3 and Formula Renault camp. The company ZINOX has ended its collaboration. Instead, TopJet has been acquired as title sponsor. Thanks to this cooperation, the team has been able to establish itself as one of the most attractive formula series in Europe. ‘We want to continue on this path of cooperation in 2025. We have renowned race tracks on the calendar and want to continue the tradition of Formula 3 and Formula Renault,’ says coordinator Franz Wöss. The race track in Monza was the venue for last year's final.
Now they will meet again for the season opener north of Milan. ‘We have a strong field of participants in Monza. Formula 3 is likely to spearhead the field with almost 20 cars. There will also be some new Formula Regional cars in the field. The Formula Light category, which is dominated by Formula Renault cars, also has a respectable field of 10 cars,’ says Franz Wöss, looking ahead. Overall, there are high hopes for the coming season, as further growth in the field of participants can be expected. The race format with the two sprint races over the respective 25-minute distance will be retained and is eagerly awaited. As already mentioned, the Formula 3, Formula 3 Trophy and Formula Light categories will be joined by a fourth category, Formula Regional.
Two-time champion and defending champion Benjamin Berta (Franz Wöss Racing) will start his next Formula 3 season with starting number 1. Last season, he finished ahead of seven-time champion Sandro Zeller (Jo Zeller Racing). As things stand, this duel could be repeated in 2025. Two of his main rivals, Canadian Victor Smialek and Francesco Galli (G Motorsport), are not taking part. This means that Stig Larsen (Franz Wöss Racing) and Riccardo Perego (Team Automobile Tricolore) could be among the hottest pursuers. Kurt Böhlen (Jo Zeller Racing) and Andrea Benalli (Puresport) should also not be written off from the outset. In the Formula 3 Trophy, Alexander Geier and Michael Aberer will make their debut in the Drexler Formula Cup with their Dallara F308. Both drivers come from Austria and want to have their say in the Formula 3 Trophy this season. Two free practice sessions are scheduled for the Drexler Automotive Formula Cup on Friday (11.04.) before qualifying on Saturday (12.04.) at 9.15 am. The first race will take place on Saturday at 1.50 pm. The second race will take place on Sunday (13.04.) at around 12.20 pm. Both races can be watched live on Saturday and Sunday on ACI Sport TV (channel 228 Sky) or on YouTube TopJet F2000.
