Formula series 2025 with 4 classes at the start

15 January 2025

Drexler Automotive Formula Cup

The Drexler Automotive Formula Cup enters the new motorsport year, which starts on 13 April in Monza, Italy, with the tried-and-tested regulations and an expanded class division. The purely technical regulations for the vehicles remain unchanged from last year, but a new vehicle category has been added. For the first time, the formula series is organising a separate class for the Formula Regional. ‘Last year, we had a number of enquiries from teams who wanted to compete in the Drexler Automotive Formula Cup. We decided to organise a separate classification for the Formula Regional,’ says coordinator Franz Wöss. The Tatuus F.3 T-318 Formula Regional with a Renault or Alfa Romeo engine is eligible. In addition to the other classes such as the Formula 3 Cup, the Formula 3 Trophy and Formula Light, the regulation with the tyres remains the same. The teams are free to choose their own tyre brand. Two sets of slick tyres are available per weekend. The Formula 3 Cup category has established itself as the spearhead of the formula series. In 2024, 24 cars were on the grid. Formula 3 cars built between 2012 and 2018 with an air intake of 28 mm are permitted here. They are joined by the Dallara F320 with Spiess or HWA engines with an air intake of max. 28 mm. The F320s with Toyota engines with a maximum air intake of 31 mm are also eligible to start, as are the Formula 3 cars with VW Power Engine and the Formula Master cars. The differences in performance are equalised by minimum weights of the vehicles.

The Formula 3 Trophy car class was also well filled with 20 cars. Formula 3 cars built up to 2011 and 2012 to 2018 with an air intake of 26 mm are predominantly eligible here. Formula 3 cars with Toyota engines, as well as the Opel OPC engine, the Fiat FPT engine and the NBE Mugen-Honda engine, which differ only slightly in terms of the air intake used, are also eligible to start. As expected, the Formula Renault cars set the tone in the new Formula Light class. With 24 cars, this category was strongly represented. The Drexler Automotive Formula Cup is sticking to the tried and tested in this year's season. In addition to Formula Renault, the junior formulas such as Formula Abarth, ADAC, BMW or Opel/Vauxhall Lotus, as well as Formula 4 with the Tatuus F.4 T-014 and Tatuus F.4 T-421 are eligible to compete. The champion for all four classifications will be determined at the end of the season. The driver with the highest total points will be honoured as the 2024 Drexler Automotive Formula Cup Champion. The Drexler Formula Cup is one of the strongest formula racing series in Europe. In cooperation with the Zinox F2000 Formula Trophy and the resulting calendar of events, the new season, which will consist of seven race weekends with two sprint races each in 2025, can be looked forward to with confidence. The sporting and technical conditions in 2025 guarantee an attractive platform in formula racing.
